Corn Flakes Smoothie – for the scorching summer heat!!

Chennai is back to its form. Though there were intermittent showers for a couple of days, the city is back to its scorching state with the sun burning ferociously. It is really difficult to run after an active toddler with sweaty palms and a tired and aching body. I really feel exhausted and this is the case almost everyday. Yesterday was one such day and I wanted something to keep my energy levels in place. That is when I made this Corn Flakes Smoothie and relished it.

With a fit hubby, all that a wife wants is, to be fit as well. Atleast not fat. I started eating corn flakes for the slimming reason. However, I still do not know if it has done the job. But I love to eat corn flakes – specially the strawberry flavored one. It tastes yumm.. My toddler loves it too. I do not want to introduce it very early to him and so I do not take it in front of him. There was a large corn flakes packet in my pantry and this was supposedly the best way to use it up.

This smoothie has the goodness of peanut butter, bananas and honey too. Very healthy and tasty. So, why don’t you people give it a try and get the much needed break from the summer. Corn Flakes Smoothie

Serves: 1

Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: Nil

Ingredients:

Corn Flakes – 1 cup
Milk – 1 and 1/4 cup
Honey – as per taste
Banana – 1
Peanut butter – 1 tbsp

Method:

1. Blend all ingredients and serve cold.

Notes:

– I used Strawberry Flavored Kellogs Corn flakes. You can substitute with your preferred choice.
– Milk can be increased ot decreased depending on the consistency you wish to achieve.

Beat the heat with this Spiced Cucumber Lassi!!!

With the temperatures soaring to about 40 degrees, it is getting increasingly tough to beat the heat. My thirsty throat screams for something better than water. I had some cucumber and buttermilk and I had to do something with these to satiate and silence my thirsty throat. What is better than a cool lassi on a hot summer day!! Lassi with the addition of cucumber makes it even more satisfying. This Cucumber Lassi spiced with a chilli seemed the perfect choice for me. Do not wait anymore. Drive away your dehydration with this spiced cucumber lassi.

Cucumber Lassi

 

Serves:1

Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

Cucumber – 1/2
Buttermilk – 3/4 cup
Green Chilli – 1/2
Cumin Powder – a pinch
Salt – to taste
Coriander leaves – for garnish

Method:

1. Peel and chop cucumber.
2. Blend all ingredients and serve chilled.
3. Garnish with coriander leaves.

Note:

– Mint leaves can also be added.
– Chat masala can also be added.
– Chilli can be avoided too.

Chikoo/Sapota/Sapodilla Milkshake

This recipe was lying in my backlog for a very long time. Only when I saw some chikkus in my pantry today, did I get reminded of this post!! Sapodilla is an extremely tasty and nutritious fruit which has many nutritional benefits. It is rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin A and is a good source of minerals like potassium, copper, iron. Additionally, it is a very good source of dietary fiber which makes it an excellent bulk laxative. This fiber content helps relieve constipation episodes. I am a big fan of this fruit and I love it in any form. This milkshake is extremely simple and at the same time very very filling.

Chikku milkshake

Serves: 2

Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

Chikkus/Sapodillas – 3
Milk – 1 cup
Sugar- 1.5 tsp
Honey – to taste

Method:

Blend all and serve chilled.

Note:

– You can omit sugar if the fruits are too sweet or sugar can be replaced with much healthier options like honey or jaggery.

Banana Walnut Choco Smoothie…mmmm…yummmm

Don’t feel like eating your meal?? Ha..Smoothie time now!! Go grab some bananas and try combining this absolutely yummilicious fruit with milk, walnuts and choco(see the recipe for a surprise ingredient) to a super delicious,healthy and filling smoothie.

Banana Walnut Choco Smoothie

Ingredients:

Bananas – 2 big
Broken Walnuts – 8-10
Cocoa Powder – 1 tsp (If you do not have cocoa powder, you can use Women’s Horlicks Chocolate flavour which I used. Boost or Bournvita might also work)
Milk – 2 cups

Method:

1. Blend all the ingredients and serve chilled.
2. Garnish with walnuts and cocoa powder.

Note:

You can increase or decrease the quantity of milk depending on your preferred thickness. The same applies to cocoa powder depending on taste.
